Sea
Sea
Sea is located right under the Tyne Bridge down at the Quayside. Serving as an after-bar club for Chase, Sea is a cracking choice to finish your night up in. Its main nights are Thursday, Friday and Saturday but in my opinion Friday is the night to go. It is a cheaper alternative to Digital, but don’t fear it’s not a step down. Although it initially seems small Sea transcend two floors with two bars downstairs and two bars upstairs. The main dance floors are on the ground floor to the left of the V.I.P area and on the first floor to the right of the V.I.P area. As for the music it change with the night but on Friday everything is on offer from R’n’B to House.
A negative about Sea is the fact that there are no toilets on the ground floor. This means that should you need it you will have to plough up the stairs and push through for 10 minutes before you even reach the toilet. Another annoying factor is the location of the V.I.P area right in the middle of the ground floor. This means that if you’re not a V.I.P you have to go upstairs then transverse the club and finally downstairs before you get to the other side. This awkwardness really restricts movement between the areas, and also causes you to develop a certain dislike for people with V.I.P wristbands.
Thursday: Cookie Jar (Electro and House)
Friday: Vice City (D’n’B, R’n’B, Electro, House, Indie)
Saturday: Simply Sea (Electro and House)

Liquid and Envy
Liquid and Envy
Liquid and Envy combine to provide the biggest club in Newcastle. This new ‘superclub’ has a 3000 person capacity over two floors, downstairs is Liquid with Envy upstairs. Liquid’s music leans towards chart with some dance thrown in, while Envy is more focused on the indie scene. If you’re on a budget but you still want to go out this maybe the club for you, with cheap admissions and cheap drinks on Mondays and Thursdays you can really enjoy yourself without your wallet taking a hit.
Due to its cheapness Liquid does attract a different sort of crowd compared to other places in Newcastle, this has led to its reputation of it being classed as slightly sleazy. However don’t judge a book by its cover and why not get down and experience it for yourself.
Monday: Tipsy (£3 admissions, £1 drinks)
Thursday: Poor! (£1 admissions, £1.50 drinks)
Friday: Friday Nights (£7 admissions, £2 selected drinks)
Saturday: Saturday Night @ Liquid and Envy (£3 admissions before 11pm, £7.70 till midnight, £8.70 after, drinks full price)

Digital
Digital
In my eyes and in a lot of other peoples this is the best club in Newcastle. Rated the 20th best club in the world, this club has a better pedigree than anything else Newcastle has to offer. Digital’s sounds system is argued to be the best in the country and I am not one to disagree. The quality, volume and bass really set the club apart. The system adds something else to most sets to take them to the next level. Yet Digital isn’t one of these “superclubs” where the DJ is way out of sight and everything feels a bit impersonal. Digital is small enough to provide that vital feeling of intimacy between the DJ and crowd, while still being large enough not to feel confined. The balance is spot on.
Digital also contains a number of different rooms providing a variety of music for all tastes, however the main focus changes on different nights. For students ‘Born in the 80s’ is a great night due to its cut price of 80p in and 80p drinks.
Digital is located in Times Square, by the Life Centre.
Monday: Born in the 80s (supposedly 80s music only, however some chart)
Thursday: Stonelove (Indie theme)
Friday: DJs from the world over play visit Digital.
Saturday: Love (House and electro)
DJmag’s ranks Digital 20th best club in the world
